EU Commissioners-designate confirmation hearings in DEVE
The designated candidates of the von der Leyen Commission undergo confirmation hearings in the European Parliament committees dealing with their portfolios. Candidates answer questions by committee members and MEPs assess if they are suitable for the posts they have been assigned to. The confirmation hearings take place from 4 until 12 November 2024.
The meetings are streamed live and the recording as well as the verbatim is available online afterwards.
DEVE is responsible for:
- Hadja LAHBIB, Commissioner-designate for Preparedness and Crisis Management; Equality. DEVE responsible jointly with FEMM, LIBE and ENVI: Wednesday, 6 November from 09.00 to 12.00
- Jozef SÍKELA, Commissioner-designate for International Partnerships: Wednesday, 6 November from 14.30 to 17.30

Von besonderem Interesse
A delegation of 6 Members, led by MEP Lukas MANDL (EPP, AT), traveled to Guatemala from 28 to 30 October. The purpose of the mission was to review the EU development portfolio in the country, especially in the context of the current programming period.
On 26 September, the Committees on Foreign Affairs and on Development, together with the Subcommittee on Human Rights, presented the candidates for this year's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought, one of the most important events of the European Parliament. On 17 October, the AFET and DEVE committees met again to narrow down the list of nominees to a three-candidate shortlist, via a secret vote.
