The Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on a response to the Commission’s Fitness Check of the EU Water legislation, on 30 November and 1 December. The issues considered in this report include the need to improve and speed up the implementation of the Water Framework Directive (WFD), and the fact that the objectives of the WFD are not yet reached due to inadequate funding, slow implementation, insufficient enforcement and broad use of exemptions.

Hearings of Nicolas Schmit -Luxembourg - Jobs

The Committee on Employment and Social Affairs will discuss the issue of fair working conditions, rights and social protection for platform workers with Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, 30 November. The Committee will then vote on its reports on access to decent and affordable housing for all, and on the right to disconnect, on 1 December. It will also vote on its opinions on reversing demographic trends in EU regions using cohesion policy instruments, and on shaping digital education policy.

The Committee on Transport and Tourism will hold a hearing with experts on the challenges and opportunities ahead with respect to future-proofing the tourism sector, on 30 November. The hearing will focus on two aspects of future tourism policy: planning the future of the industry by means of an EU tourism policy, and ensuring the transition to sustainable, responsible and smart tourism through innovation.

The Committees on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs and the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality will hold a hearing on combating gender-based cyber violence, on 30 November. The objective of the hearing is to obtain input from relevant experts for the committees’ forthcoming joint legislative initiative report, which will focus on combatting cyber violence as an expression of gender based violence, with specific attention to violence against women.

The Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee will vote on its opinion on the implementation of the framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation, in light of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, on 1 December. The opinion on the temporary derogation from a number of provisions regarding the use of technologies by certain service providers for the processing of personal and other data for combatting online child sexual abuse will also be voted.

This debate will take place in a context where the EU’s space, defence and civil security industries face unprecedented competition in a highly volatile geopolitical environment, highlighting the need to ensure the EU’s access to space, its resilience and security of infrastructure.

The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy will go over the Commission's reports on energy prices and costs in Europe, and on energy subsidies in the EU, on 1 December. The debate will take place with the participation of Cristina Lobillo Borrero, Director in DG Energy of the European Commission. Both reports were adopted by the Commission on 14 October together with the 2020 State of the Energy Union report.

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will hold an inter-parliamentary committee meeting on the evaluation of Eurojust activities, on 1 December. The will be the first time that such an assessment is being done, in accordance with Article 85 TFEU and Regulation 2018/1727 on Eurojust. The meeting envisages the participation of Eurojust President Hamran and its Vice-President, Justice Commissioner Reynders, and a representative of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
