IMCO-LIBE joint committee vote on the Artificial Intelligence Act report

On 11 May, IMCO and LIBE Members voted in joint committee the report on the Artificial Intelligence Act.

Following thorough negotiations on compromises, the report of the Parliament includes important amendments to the legislative proposal, such as strong provisions on the ban of certain AI systems, a number of additions to the list of AI systems categorised as high-risk, the introduction of the fundamental rights impact assessment for high-risk AI systems, an inclusive role for the new AI Office. Moreover, a better alignment with the GDPR is proposed, an increased involvement of stakeholders in several areas, as well as provisions applicable to foundation models and general purpose AI.
