The ITRE Committee invited Commissioner Simson to present the "Fit for 55" package, which took place on 15 July 2021. The package includes the revision of important pieces of energy legislation for which ITRE is responsible, like the Renewable Energy Directive and the Energy Efficiency Directive among others.
On 24 June, the Committees on Industry, Research and Energy and on Transport and Tourism held a joint vote on the draft recommendation for second reading on the Council position at first reading with a view to adopt the EU's flagship programme for transport, energy and digital, the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
One of the strategy’s key areas of the Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 is the promotion of gender balance in ICT studies and careers. The ITRE Committee held a debate on Thursday 17 June on how to advance gender equality in the EU, break gender stereotypes in STEM careers, empower a gender-balanced entrepreneurships, and more generally, on the role of women as researchers, entrepreneurs and leaders in the digital, ICT and artificial intelligence sector.
On Wednesday, 16 June 2021 (16:45-18:45), ITRE and CULT Committees held a joint-public hearing on the New European Bauhaus (NEB), a Commission’s interdisciplinary initiative which helps to deliver the European Green Deal by combining design, sustainability and accessibility while fostering building energy efficiency.
