On 5 March 2026, the opinion of the Court of Auditors on the proposal for the next CAP highlights the complexity of the structure proposed by the Commission and the risks associated with it will be presented. ECA Member, Iliana Ivanova, will detail and discuss with AGRI Members the findings and conclusions of the Court, as well as its recommendations.
The AGRI Committee will vote on 5 March 2026 on its opinion on BUDG interim report on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028 – 2034.
On 5 March 2026, the Commission will present its proposal to amend Regulation (EU) 2018/848 as regards certain production, labelling and certification rules and certain rules on trade with third countries, i.e. the production and labelling of organic products. This proposal is intended to ensure fair competition and the proper functioning of the organic market, and thereby consumer confidence in those products.
On 24 February, AGRI Members will hold an exchange of views with Mr Nikolaus Kriz, Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The discussion will provide an update on EFSA's current priorities and ongoing work related to agricultural and food sectors.
On 24 February, the AGRI Committee will adopt its opinions on the EU 2027 Budget, the extension of the Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives, and the simplification omnibus for chemical products. It will also vote on the provisional interinstitutional agreement on forest reproductive material.
On 23 February, an EPRS study (please see below) assessing the EU promotion policy of farm products will be presented and discussed. These exchanges will take place in the context of the upcoming Implementation Report on the matter currently being prepared by Salvatore De Meo (EPP, IT).
Food and agriculture are vital for European citizens, the economy and society. The publication of the proposal in July has laid the foundations for the CAP post-2027, while recognising the fundamental role of farmers as food producers, guardians of the landscape and the backbone of our rural communities.
On 28 January 2026, Members of the AGRI Committee will welcome Dr Maria Panayiotou, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment to present the priorities of Cyprus Presidency for the first semester of 2026. Cyprus took over the Presidency of the European Union on 1 January as third Presidency of the trio with Poland and Denmark. Cyprus assumed the Presidency of the Council of the EU, for the second time, under the slogan “An Autonomous Union. Open to the World”.
On 28th January, AGRI Members will welcome Mr Thanawat Tiensin, Assistant Director-General and Director of the Animal Production and Health Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
