Next Petitions Committee meeting

21-06-2021 - 16:23
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the European Parliament has established a number of measures to contain the spread of the virus and to safeguard Parliament's core activities. The current precautionary measures do not affect work on legislative priorities.
Core activities are maintained to ensure the smooth running of the institution's legislative, budgetary, and scrutiny functions. The meetings allow for remote participation in a virtual environment.

Following these decisions, the next PETI Committee meeting will take place on:
Wednesday 14/07/2021: 13:45-16:15; 16:45-18:45
Thursday 15/07/2021: 9:00-11:00 ; 11:30-12:30 and 13:45-15:45

On 16 June 2021, the PETI and AGRI Committees organised a joint hearing on How to treat farmers in a fair and equal manner across the EU. The hearing began presenting two petitions from Lithuania and Poland complaining about the fact that farmers still receive direct payments per hectare below the EU average. It was structured in two panels; the first panel discussed the currently on-going CAP reform; the second panel dealt with how to solve inequality in CAP payments.

On 26 May 2021, the Committee on Petitions organised a hearing on the Interinstitutional relations in the treatment of petitions: the role of the Commission. The hearing began with the presentation of a study on the very same subject, commissioned by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions. Then, the European Ombudsman made a keynote speech about her perspective on the Commission’s response to citizen’s concerns.
