ANIT Committee Chair © European Union - European Parliament

Welcome to the website of the Committee of inquiry on animal transport (ANIT)!

On 19 June 2020 the European Parliament decided to set up the ANIT Committee to investigate alleged violations in the application of European Union law on the protection of animals during transport and related operations within and outside the EU. It will focus on how EU rules are being implemented by member states and whether the EU Commission is enforcing them properly.

During its twelve-month mandate our Committee, with its 30 Members, will make use of various methods to investigate the alleged failures: it will hold hearings with experts, invite witnesses, request documents and undertake fact-finding missions when needed. The investigations shall be concluded with the submission of a final report within 12 months from the date it was set up.

You are kindly invited to follow our Committee's work through various channels provided on this site, including meeting documents, live video streaming, multimedia archive and our regular newsletter.

With my best wishes,

Tilly Metz,
