Members of the Committee on Development met on 13 April to exchange views with Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management (10.00-12.00) and then with Marcos A. Orellana, Special Rapporteur on toxics and human rights, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) (16.45-17.45).
On 23 March 2021, the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), in association with the Committee on Development (DEVE), is organising the side event on "Enhancing gender equality and women's empowerment in the Covid-19 recovery”. Members of the Development Committee will join Members of the Budgetary Control Committee on the presentation by ECA Member Hannu Takkula of the ECA Special Report on 'EU humanitarian aid for education: helps children in need, but should be longer-term and reach more girls', that will take place Tuesday 23 March from 10.30-12.00, remote participation via Spinelli 1G3.

On 16 March, Members of the Development committee will join Members of the Subcommittee on Human rights to discuss the situation in Burundi in the presence of Doudou Diène, President and Françoise Hampson, Commissioner of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Burundi. The meeting will take place remotely from 16:45 until 17:45.
On 17 March, MEPs from the Committees on Development and on Foreign Affairs will exchange views with the EEAS and the European Commission on relations with Southern Africa – focussing on Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa. The meeting will take place from 13:15 until 15:45.
Members of the Development Committee met remotely on 25 February to exchange views on the humanitarian situation and the EU humanitarian response in relation to COVID-19, with EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič. Michèle Rivasi (Verts/ALE) also presented the report on the role of development policy in the response to biodiversity loss in developing countries, in the context of the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, for which she is rapporteur.
