Highlights
The Committee on Development will hold a hearing on 22 March 2022, from 9.30-12.00, to discuss recommendations on how to more effectively address hunger and malnutrition through EU development and humanitarian policies.
On 1 March, Members of the Development Committee held an extraordinary meeting with EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, on EU humanitarian aid to Ukraine in light of the Russian invasion.
A delegation of the Committee on Development traveled to Lebanon from 22 to 24 February 2022. The mission focused on the humanitarian situation and on the status and living conditions of the estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees living in Lebanon, as well as on the situation of the vulnerable Lebanese population impacted by the socioeconomic crisis, the pandemic and the Beirut blast.
On 1 February, Members of the Development Committee debated with the French Minister of State Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne on the priorities of the French Presidency in the fields of development and humanitarian aid.
On Monday 7 February, Members of the Development Committee participated in a workshop on the Future of the European Financial Architecture for Development. This workshop’s aim was to inform DEVE Members on the ways and modalities of financing of development under the European Financial Architecture for Development (EFAD).
The Policy Department for External Relations of the European Parliament has released a new study entitled "The implementation of the 2030 Agenda’s principles of ‘leaving-no-one-behind’ and ‘addressing the needs of those furthest behind first’ in the EU’s development policy".
