Welcome to the webpage of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights.

In today's world where international human rights law is consistently undermined, the European Union remains deeply committed to the protection and promotion of the universality of human rights in its internal and external policies.

The European Parliament and its Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) raise awareness on specific human rights situations, engage with a broad range of interlocutors and oversee the respect for human rights in the EU's external actions, with an added emphasis on ensuring coherence between all the Union's external policies (e.g. on trade, asylum and migration) and its human rights policy.

One of its major roles is indeed to scrutinise the implementation of the EU human rights policy, its impact and contribution in effectively promoting respect for human rights standards and the principles of rule of law and democracy in partner countries.

Through exchanges of views, studies and reports, missions to partner countries as well as international and regional human rights organisations and follow-up to urgency resolutions, the Subcommittee will endeavour to address a steady increase of human rights challenges and conflicts, building common understanding and exploring possible ways of improvement and action.
