A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On 27 May (13.45 - 15.45), the EMPL Committee will hold the Hearing “Amazon attacks on fundamental workers' rights and freedoms: freedom of assembly and association and the right to collective bargain and action”.


On 25 May, AIDA and EMPL Committees will organise a hearing on AI and the labour market, in which AI's impact on the future of skills will also be discussed.

On 18 March 2021 (from 09:00 to 11:00), the European Parliament's Committee of Employment and Social Affairs held a hearing on "The Future Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at work, asbestos included" for the forthcoming years 2021-2027. As the previous EU Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at work has expired by the end of 2020, the European Commission has announced a new framework aiming at maintaining and improving high OSH standards for workers across the Union in 2021.

EMPL-LIBE joint hearing on “Consequences and lessons from the COVID-19 crisis for people living in residential institutions: a social and human rights perspective”. The EMPL and LIBE committees will hold a hearing, introduced by EMPL Chair Lucia ĎURIŠ NICHOLSONOVÁ and LIBE Chair Juan Fernando LÓPEZ AGUILAR, with experts, Commission Vice-President Dubravka ŠUICA and Commissioner Helena DALLI.
