Hearings

A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On this page you will find all the available information relating to committee hearings, including programmes and contributions from speakers.

TThe public hearing “Agriculture sustainability: Past, present and future - the role of data and indicators” brought together four experts from the FAO, Wageningen research and university and the Organic Agriculture research centre, Austria. The aim was provided insights into the actual management and use of data and indicators with the aim to monitor the sustainability of EU agriculture. The hearing was organised by AGRI Committee with ENVI Committee associated.

The impact of pesticides on human health and food security in developing countries

On Tuesday, 18 July 2023, the Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, in association with the Committee on Agriculture will hold a public hearing on “How to make sure that pesticide manufacturers disclose results of toxicity studies”.

Save Cruelty Free Cosmetics

On Thursday 25 May, from 9.00, ENVI held a hearing on the European Citizens’ Initiative: ‘Save cruelty-free cosmetics – Commit to a Europe without animal testing’. The AGRI and PETI Committees will be associated.

The AGRI and ENVI Committees organised a joint public hearing on the IPMWORKS networks. IPMWORKS is a project supported by the Horizon 2020 Programme. Its objective is to coordinate and promote pioneering farms implementing Integrated Pest Management across Europe.

On 22 March ENVI and AGRI committees are jointly organising a public hearing on carbon farming and its practical applications in the EU.

ENVI and LIBE Committees organized a public hearing on 'Depathologisation of transgender and non-binary persons'. The European Parliament has strongly condemned all forms of discrimination against LGBTIQ+ people, including LGBTIQ+ conversion 'therapies'. Moreover, it has also made repeated calls on the Member States to ban such practices.
