A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. AIDA interparliamentary meeting with national parliaments

On 8 November, AIDA will organise an AI Summit together with the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The morning part, starting at 9.30 CET, will discuss recent AI developments and the future of AI with experts and stakeholders. In the afternoon, at 13.45-16.00, there will be a meeting with the national parliaments (ICM) by the theme 'Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Decade' aimed at deepening AI dialogue between the EP and the national Parliaments. On 28 October, the IMCO Committee will hold a public hearing on dual quality of goods in the Single Market. The aim of this hearing is to provide an overview of the state of play on ‘dual quality’.

On Wednesday 27 October 2021 from 13h45-15h45 the FEMM Committee organises a Public Hearing entitled “Enhancing gender equality through common European action on care".

European Parliament

This public hearing is intended to provide AFCO Members an opportunity to discuss with experts in the field the role and competences of a European electoral authority, namely the monitoring of the implementation of the guidelines and provisions related to the European electoral law. This is also one of the proposals in the own-initiative legislative report by Mr. Domènec Ruiz Devesa (S&D, Spain), which is currently being debated in AFCO.

FISC Subcommittee

On 27 October 2021, from 09:00 to 11:15 (CET), the FISC Subcommittee will hold a public hearing on “A European Withholding Tax Framework” in order to examine how current withholding tax regimes create opportunities for tax avoidance, while at the same time causing significant barriers for companies and investors operating cross-border.

Train towards EU

The TRAN Committee will hold a public debate on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the global development strategy adopted by the Chinese government, involving infrastructure development and investments. Representatives of academia and the private sector will discuss with TRAN Members the challenges and opportunities of this Chinese initiative for the European transport system.

In the framework of the European Gender Equality Week, ECON will hold a public hearing on the following: “The consequences of the pandemic on women and how the recovery can be designed to protect women and promote gender equality: Promotion of gender equality, equal opportunities for all and the mainstreaming of those objectives in the RRF/NRPs?”.

In order to inform on the ongoing CULT implementation report on the same topic, the Committee is organising a public hearing on “Inclusion measures within the Erasmus+ Programme 2014-2020” on 26 October 2021 from 9.10 to 11.00.

The aim of this final ANIT hearing is to share examples of best practices in transport operations, scientific developments and technical innovations to improve animal welfare in transports. Various experts and representatives from civil society, as well as from the agricultural and transport sectors, will be invited to share their insights and recommendations for improvements in animal transport. The presentations will be followed by an exchange of views with Members.


The hearing will take stock of EU investment policy twelve years after becoming an exclusive EU competence with the Lisbon Treaty. It will kick off with a keynote speech delivered by DG Trade’s Deputy Director General, María Martín-Prat. Subsequently, two panels will look at different aspects of the subject.
