A key component of the European Green Deal is the Farm to Fork (F2F) Strategy for a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system, published by the Commission on 20 May 2020. The strategy sets out a vision for a European food system with a reduced environmental and climate footprint until 2030, that is resilient and can ensure food security and sustainability in the face of climate change and biodiversity loss. The Strategy is accompanied by a list of 27 actions to be taken until 2024.

ENVI drew up a report on the F2F Strategy jointly with AGRI , as the Strategy lies at the nexus of agriculture, food safety, environment and climate change. The report was adopted by plenary on 20 October 2021 On 28 May 2020, ENVI held an exchange on the Strategy with Commissioner Kyriakides. ENVI members raised questions on the link between Farm to Fork and the CAP; targets for pesticides; incentives for farmers with low carbon footprint; front-of pack and environmental labelling and about the lack of a concrete target for the reduction of meat consumption in the F2F Strategy. ENVI has been actively engaged in many of the F2F issues: recently ENVI adopted two implementation reports on pesticides ( on the implementation of Regulation (EC) 1107/2009 on the placing of plant protection products on the market (2017/2128(INI) of 23 July 2018) and on the implementation of Directive 2009/128/EC on the sustainable use of pesticides (2017/2284(INI) of 30 January 2019).
