International Women's Day

International Women's Day (IWD) 2021

The Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM), in collaboration with the Directorate for Relations with National Parliaments, will organize an Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting celebrating the IWD 2021 at the beginning of March 2021.

This event will benefit from the valuable contributions of Heads of States and Governments, Members of the European Parliament and of National Parliaments across the EU, frontline workers and other distinguished guests.

FEMM IWD 2021 will provide a global forum for an exchange of experiences and best practices in advancing women's empowerment during crises such as the one triggered by COVID-19.

Tentative date and time: Wednesday, 4 March 2021, from 9.00 to 12.30.

Theme: "Women's empowerment and leadership in Covid times".

Please be informed that the FEMM International Women's Day 2020 event which was planned to take place on 5th March 2020 is cancelled. In light of the current outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the President of the European Parliament announced in a press conference last evening that for the course of the next three weeks, 130 events at Parliament premises, which were expected to be attended by 6000 to 7000 participants, are cancelled.

FEMM, in collaboration with the Directorate for Relations with National Parliaments, had planned to hold an Inter-parliamentary Committee Meeting on "The 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action" to celebrate International Women's Day as a special event, taking a look back on progress achieved on gender equality and forward to anticipate future challenges.
