Gender aspects of the rising cost of living- draft report - 19.9.23

On Tuesday, 19 September 2023, the FEMM Committee debated on the draft report on the “Gender aspects of the rising cost of living and the impact of the energy crisis".
The increasing energy prices are severely impacting the European economy, driving up inflation, causing businesses to collapse, and pushing almost a quarter of the population close to poverty. Ms. Alice Kuhnke (Greens/EFA) presented her draft initiative report which addresses the feminisation of energy poverty and provides gender-responsive solutions to the crisis and the green transition. Later, the Committee heard a presentation by Dr. Mariëlle Feenstra, the author of an upcoming study ordered by the Policy Department on this topic.
