HEARING ON EU REGIONS IN A "DEVELOPMENT TRAP": TARGETED SOLUTIONS

On Wednesday 22 March, the REGI committee had a public hearing on the subject of 'EU regions in a "development trap" : targeted solutions through cohesion policy instruments'. The concept of a regional development trap refers to regions that face significant structural challenges in retrieving past dynamism or improving prosperity for their residents. In order to better understand the structural factors that lead to such a situation and to avoid new regions experiencing the same fate, the concept was further explored so as to overcome the common challenges faced. New and targeted solutions through cohesion policy instruments should be developed to resume growth.
