The public hearing ‘The responsibilities of fossil fuel companies in the cost of living crisis’ focused on the impact of the war in Ukraine on energy prices and addressed the cost of living crisis and energy poverty in the EU, examining the alleged responsibilities fossil fuel companies bear in this regard.
On Wednesday 14 February 2024, in response to a number of petitions, the Committee on Petitions organised a hearing to analyse the impact of the war in Ukraine on energy prices and to address the cost of living crisis and energy poverty in the EU, examining the alleged responsibilities of fossil fuel companies in the social and economic difficulties faced by EU citizens. The hearing also focused on the EU's response to the energy crisis in order to secure energy supplies and guarantee affordable prices for consumers and the need, in this context, for an open, transparent and regular dialogue with representatives associations and civil society.
