A hearing on "Interference using online platforms, the role of algorithmic manipulation, and responsibility and effects of online platforms on democracy" will be held on 20 May. Digital spaces have become increasingly central to political discourse, in parallel to the steady rise of big tech companies holding significant influence over global information and data flows.

This hearing will examine the role of algorithms in shaping public opinion and of algorithmic manipulation in spreading misinformation, and amplifying biased narratives. The discussion will also touch upon the ethical and social responsibilities of tech companies in preventing interference and ensuring transparency in their internal processes in the digital sphere. Moreover, the hearing will address the broader implications of the use as well as abuse of online platforms on democratic processes in the Union.
