Differences in pension schemes - workshop
On Tuesday, 19 September 2023, the FEMM Committee held a workshop on “The differences in Member States' pension schemes with effects on women”, organised by the Policy Department on Citizen’s Rights and Constitutional Affairs.
The gender pay gap refers to the difference in average earnings between men and women in the workforce, which consequently results in discrimination in pension schemes. The pay gap can be attributed to various factors, including discrimination, occupational segregation, differences in education and experience, and societal expectations.
Progress in reducing the gender pay gap has been slow, but there has been increased awareness and efforts to close the gap in recent years. However, it remains a complex and multifaceted issue that requires ongoing attention and this Workshop aimed to contribute to this end, focusing particularly on the differences in Member States' pension schemes.
