On Wednesday 14 February 2024 from 10:00 to 12:00, AFCO Chair Salvatore de Meo moderated a workshop related to the file on a permanent system for the allocation seats in the European Parliament, Co-Rapporteurs, Ana COLLADO JIMÉNEZ and Niklas NIENAß.
Over the years, the European Parliament has recognized the importance of a permanent system for the allocation of seats which must follow the general provisions of Article 14 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU). However, a permanent system has not yet been established. This workshop was intended to examine and discuss proposals by mathematicians and experts in the field, to seek a fair, objective and transparent mechanism for seat allocation to be used before each new European election.
