On Thursday, 11 December 2025, the FEMM Committee and the Committee on Public Health organised a joint public hearing on Digital Violence and Women's Mental Health, with the involvement of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.
From misogynistic trolling and sexualised threats to coordinated attacks on activists, journalists and public figures, digital spaces increasingly reproduce and amplify gender-based violence. Online hate, harassment and digital violence has growing mental health consequences for women and girls. The hearing explored the psychological effects of such abuse - including anxiety, depression, trauma and withdrawal from public life - as well as the lack of adequate legal and psychological support systems.
