Public hearing on the appointment of the Chair of the European Fiscal Board

On 19 March, the members of the ECON Committee held a public hearing with Mr Pieter F. Hasekamp, proposed by the Commission for the position of Chair of the European Fiscal Board (EFB).
In line with Regulation (EU) 2024/1263, the Chair and the Members of the EFB are selected and appointed by the Commission, after consultation of the European Parliament and the Council. The EFB is an independent advisory body, which among other tasks, provides a timely ex-post evaluation of the implementation of the Union fiscal governance framework, advises on the prospective fiscal stance appropriate for the euro area as a whole and makes suggestions for the future evolution of the fiscal framework.
Following the hearing, the ECON Committee voted on Mr Hasekamp's appointment as well as the appointment of the four other members (Eckhard Janeba, George Kopits, Benedicta Marzinotto, Lucia Rodríguez Muñoz) proposed by the Commission for the Board.
