Next TRAN meeting

In the context of the exponential growth of COVID-19, the EP President has announced a number of measures to contain the spread of epidemic and to safeguard Parliament's core activities.

The current precautionary measures adopted by the EP to contain the spread of COVID-19 do not affect work on legislative priorities. Core activities are reduced, but maintained to ensure that EP's legislative, budgetary, scrutiny functions are maintained.

Meetings will be with remote participation for Members. Other participants can follow the meeting through webstreaming.

Thus, the next TRAN meeting will take place on Tuesday 25 May from 9.00 to 12.00, 13.45 to 15.45 and 16.15 to 18.15.

On Monday 10 May 2021, the TRAN Committee invited the European Coordinators in charge of the TEN-T Core Network Corridors to discuss the progress and challenges in the implementation of the Mediterranean, Orient/East-Med and Rhine-Alpine corridors: Iveta Radičová - Mediterranean corridor; Mathieu Grosch - Orient/East-Med corridor; Pawel Wojciechowski - Rhine-Alpine corridor. The exchange of views was webstreamed.

The deployment of charging infrastructure in line with electric vehicle uptake is a key enabler of the switch to alternative fuels and to a largely zero-emission vehicle fleet by 2050. The Commission has the role of steering the EU’s overall alternative fuels policy through the adoption of common standards to ensure interoperability, the coordination and support to Member States’ deployment of electrical charging infrastructure, and monitoring of progress.

The objective of this study is to analyse the key challenges and trends concerning the provision of transport policies and infrastructure in low density and depopulating areas. It also provides a comprehensive assessment of relevant transport policies and projects implemented in these areas. Finally, it provides policymakers with a variety of policy recommendations aimed at overcoming the identified challenges and gaps.

The TRAN Committee held a Structured Dialogue with Commissioner Vălean on the state of play in the field of transport policy. Also, the initiatives that the Commission plans to take in 2021 to make the transport sector smarter and more sustainable and thus emerging stronger from the current pandemic situation were discussed. The exchange of views took place on Thursday morning, 15 April 2021 and was webstreamed.

TRAN held an exchange of views with the Director General of DG GROW Kerstin Jorna on the situation facing the tourism sector ahead of the upcoming summer season. It has been over a year since the tourism sector was hit hard by the pandemic. Many companies went dormant or out of business; others are trying to find new ways to stay afloat by reinventing themselves and their ways of doing business.
