On 16 March 2021, Policy Department C, at the request of the FEMM Committee, organized a workshop on “Applying gender mainstreaming in the EU recovery package”.

Since the beginning of the budgetary procedure, FEMM has called for the implementation of gender-responsive budgeting to ensure women and men benefit equally from public spending through the economic recovery measures.

European resilience supposes that the EU and its Member States develop a gender-sensitive approach to recovery plans for the crisis and its aftermath.

The new EU's long-term budget is coupled with a temporary instrument designed to boost the recovery (NextGenerationEU). The EU has recently adopted a Regulation establishing the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), worth €672.5 billion, which is at the heart of the EU's recovery effort to rebuild a post-COVID-19 Europe.
