Members of the Development Committee will meet remotely on 25 February to exchange views on:
  • The humanitarian situation and the EU humanitarian response in relation to COVID-19, with EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič;
  • Presentation and debate on the Report on The role of development policy in the response to biodiversity loss in developing countries, in the context of the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, with its rapporteur Michèle Rivasi (Verts/ALE).
Votes on the agenda:
  • Report "The impacts of climate change on vulnerable populations in developing countries"
  • Opinion "The situation of sexual and reproductive health and rights in the EU, in the frame of women's health"
  • Opinion "Guidelines for the 2022 Budget - Section III"
The meeting will take place from 13:45-15:45 and 16:45-17:50. It will be interpreted in EN, FR, DE, ES, IT, PL and HU.

On 23 February, Members of the Development Committee, jointly with Members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, will participate in an exchange of views with the EEAS and the Commission on relations with East Africa – focussing on Kenya, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

As Europe embarks on its biggest mass vaccination campaign ever, Parliament emphasises the need for solidarity and unity. MEPs are calling on the European Commission to dispel uncertainty with more open information on Covid-19 vaccines.

On 4 February, Members of the Development Committee exchanged views with EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, on access to COVID-19 vaccines for developing countries. On 17 February, in a letter sent to Commissioner Urpilainen ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit, MEPs call on the EU to pledge 300 million euros more to help developing countries obtain COVID-19 vaccines.

On 26 January, two meetings took place jointly with other committees: • Meeting with the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT): presentation of the Court of Auditors Special Report on Development Aid to Kenya. • Meeting with the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET): exchange of views on the situation in Ethiopia with Hirut Zemene, Ambassador of Ethiopia, the EEAS and the Commission.
