Following the recent appointment by the European Commission of Fiona Scott Morton as Chief Competition Economist at the Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP) EVP Vestager attended a Coordinators' meeting, open to all ECON members, on Tuesday 18 July 2023, from 17:30 to 18:30 in meeting room ANTALL 4Q1 in order to discuss the issue. The meeting was held in public and webstreamed.

On 18 July, 14:30 – 15:30, the Chair of the Single Resolution Board, Dominique Laboureix, made his second appearance in his capacity of SRB Chair since his appointment in December 2022.

Following the resignation of Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reshuffled her team. MEPs held two extraordinary hearings for the posts of Trade and Finance. Valdis Dombrovskis, currently the Executive Vice-President of the Commission, was questioned by a group of committees led by the Committee on International Trade for the trade portfolio. Parliament will have the final say on his appointment.

On Monday 10 July, from 19:00 to 21:00, Members from the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs held the 11th Recovery and Resilience Dialogue with the European Commission (Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for Economy).

On Thursday 6 July 2023, the joint ECON and ENVI Committee scrutinised the Taxonomy Environmental Delegated Act and amending Climate Delegated Act in the presence of Commissioner McGuinness. Two years ago, on 4 June 2021, the Commission adopted the first Taxonomy Delegated Regulation on sustainable activities for climate change adaptation and mitigation objectives, namely the Climate Delegated Act.
