Hearing on Artificial Intelligence in Criminal Law

On 20 February 2020, the LIBE Committee held a hearing on artificial intelligence in criminal law and its use by the police and judicial authorities in criminal matters
This hearing was part of the work undertaken by the LIBE Committee on this topic. It looked at different questions related to the use of Artificial Intelligence in this context, such as benefits and risks of this new technology, predictive policing, facial recognition, as well as the ethical and fundamental rights implications. It also took stock of current work conducted by the Council of Europe. The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA).
