Hearing on the Interinstitutional relations in the treatment of petitions

On 26 May 2021, the Committee on Petitions organised a hearing on the Interinstitutional relations in the treatment of petitions: the role of the Commission. The hearing began with the presentation of a study on the very same subject, commissioned by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions. Then, the European Ombudsman made a keynote speech about her perspective on the Commission’s response to citizen’s concerns.
The following two panels, the first presenting the academic point of view on the role of petitions in political decisions and the second the Commission's outlook on the relation between the Commission and Committee on Petitions, gave participants the opportunity to discuss ways to improve this crucial cooperation for the benefit of the citizens.
