On 5 December at the PEGA committee meeting Quentin Liger from Asterisk Research and Analysis GmbH had presented the study on "The existing legal framework in EU Member States for the acquisition and use of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware and on democratic and judicial oversight, and remedies and redress in case of use contrary to the legal frameworks: compatibility with ECHR and EU law and jurisprudence and best practices".

On 24 November 2022 PEGA Committee held a hearing on 'Trade in zero-day vulnerabilities'. This hearing explored the trade in vulnerabilities that often escape the light of day. This trade is part of the foundation for the spyware industry. The hearing in particular covered effects of this trade often taking place in hiding, against untraceable payments and to groups that are linked to cyber criminality.

At the press conference of 8 November 2022, PEGA Committee rapporteur Sophie in 'h Veld presented her findings of EP spyware inquiry. Her draft report and continued work will be based on these findings.

In the afternoon of 26 October PEGA committee held a hearing on 'Spyware and ePrivacy'. This hearing covered the analysis of the respect of the principles of confidentiality of communications and prohibition of interception (listening, tapping, storage) or surveillance of communications.

On 27 October PEGA committee organized 2 hearings: ‘The impact of Spyware on Fundamental Rights' and ‘The impact of Spyware on Democracy and Electoral processes’. These hearings looked at the Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware's alleged negative impact on fundamental rights under the Charter, in cases where Member States were implementing Union law, as well as adverse impact on democratic processes in the Member States concerning elections on local, national and European levels.

On 26 October PEGA committee has organized a hearing on 'Big tech and spyware II'. This hearing was a continuation of the hearing on 'Big tech and Spyware' of 14 June 2022 and focused on the response of the large platforms to attacks and abuse by spyware companies and entities using their technology. It allowed us not only to deepen our understanding of the work of big tech companies, but also to discuss with European actors on the current IT cybersecurity landscape.
