Turning the tide on cancer: the national parliaments' view on Europe's Cancer Plan
European Parliament Brussels, room Paul-Henri SPAAK 3C050
The European Parliament Special Committee on Beating Cancer (BECA), in cooperation with the Legislative Dialogue Unit of the Directorate for Relations with national Parliaments, invited Members of national Parliaments of the EU Member States to a virtual Interparliamentary Committee Meeting (ICM) on Monday 27 September 2021 to discuss the fight against cancer in Europe. The event can be watched again via the European Parliament's web streaming platform (see link below).
This Interparliamentary Committee meeting provided a good forum for debate between European and national parliamentarians on the BECA draft report, prepared by Véronique Trillet-Lenoir, and on Europe's Beating Cancer Plan presented by the European Commission in February 2021. Stella Kyriakides, Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, delivered a key note address.
The event was an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices on how national and EU actions can contribute to a better rate of cancer prevention, support excellence in research, improve existing and encourage new treatments, and ensure equal access to cancer care throughout the Union. It also offered the opportunity to address how the coronavirus pandemic affected cancer care and cancer patients, and how cancer care could be made more resilient in the future.
Due to the COVID-19-measures in place, the meeting was held remotely via video conference. It can be watched again via the link below.
