Next meeting of the Committee on Budgets
The next BUDG Committee meeting will take place on:
Monday 27 March and Tuesday 28 March in Brussels

On Monday 6 March 2023, 17:00 – 18:30, BUDG and ECON Members will hold an exchange of views on the implementation of InvestEU with Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for the Budget and Administration, Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for the Economy, and Teresa Czerwińska, Vice President of the European Investment Bank.

Every year, the Commission updates the financial programming for the remainder of the multiannual financial framework (MFF - the EU's long term budget), in accordance with the Article 41(2) of the Financial Regulation and the Interinstitutional Agreement accompanying the 2021-2027 MFF.

Members of the BUDG committee considered the draft report prepared by Olivier Chastel (Renew) on the European Commission's proposal to mobilise the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund for Displaced Workers (EGF) to support workers laid off from the Belgian subsidiary of TNT International.

The Committee on Budgets held a debate on the general rapporteur for the 2024 budget, Mr Janusz Lewandowski's, guidelines for next year's budget.

In the context of EU economic, social and budgetary policies, the European Parliament and the Swedish Presidency organised the European Parliamentary Week 2023. It took place on 27 - 28 February 2023 in the European Parliament in Brussels.The Inter-Committee Meeting organised by the Committee on Budgets took place on Monday 27 February from 15.30 until 18.45.

The Committee on Budgets was in Chişinău, Moldova from 21 to 23 February 2023. The main objective of this mission was to assess Moldova's most pressing needs in terms of EU financial support, also in view of the country's candidate status.

On 16 May 2022, the European Commission presented a proposal with targeted adjustments to the EU's Financial Regulation to align existing financial rules with the current long-term budget 2021-2027 and further reinforce them in aspects such as, among other, transparency, and better protected and more agile budget.

Given the need to support in a timely and targeted manner the Member States for reinforcing their defence capacities, the European Commission proposes to incentivise common procurement via the EU budget through a dedicated Short Term Instrument establishing the European Defence industry Reinforcement through Common Procurement Act (EDIRPA).

Members from the Committee on Budgets and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs held the 9th Recovery and Resilience Dialogue with Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice-President for an Economy that Works for People and Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner for Economy.
