Auditions

On 5 September 2023 at 9:30, Ms Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner-designate for innovation, research, culture, education and youth, will appear before the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Committee on Culture and Education.

The CULT Committee in association with LIBE and IMCO committees, organises on 6 February at 16.30 a public hearing dedicated to the "Media Freedom Act", a long awaited legislative proposal aiming to strengthen media pluralism and media freedom in the European Union.

On 5 December, the CULT Committee will hold a public hearing with school professors and experts on the topic “Teaching of music and arts in schools”.

The Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) will hold a public hearing on the “Implementation of the revised Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) on 25 October. The hearing will contribute to CULT’s implementation report with the same title (Rapporteur: Petra Kammerevert, S&D Group) and will provide Members with information on the transposition of the Directive into national legislation.

On 15 June 2022 the Committee on Culture and Education will hold a public hearing on “The United Kingdom and Erasmus+” in association with the Committee for Petitions. The hearing will assess the impact of the UK's decision to withdraw from Erasmus+ on higher education institutions and their students.

In order to inform on the ongoing CULT implementation report on the same topic, the Committee is organising a public hearing on “Inclusion measures within the Erasmus+ Programme 2014-2020” on 26 October 2021 from 9.10 to 11.00.

On 14 October 2021 the Committee on Culture and Education and the Committee on Foreign Affairs will hold a joint public hearing on “Culture in the EU's external relations”.

On 27 September 2021 the Committee on Culture and Education held a public hearing on on the basic structures and main principles of a European Digital Public Sphere. The invited experts were Prof. Dr. Jan-Hendrik Passoth, Professor for Sociology of Technology, European New School of Digital Studies, European University Viadrina (DE) and Hans H. Luik, AS Ekspress Grupp, Member of the Supervisory Board (ET), representing the perspectives from both public and private operators.

On Tuesday, 22 June 2021 (13:45-15:45) the CULT Committee will hold a public hearing on the topic "Creative Europe and the cultural and creative sectors in Horizon Europe: how can synergies and potentials be maximized?".

On 2 December 2020 the Committee on Culture and Education held a public hearing on "The education package: aims, challenges and prospects for success". The hearing represented an opportunity for the CULT Committee to engage with stakeholders and experts in dissecting the 'education package' published by the Commission on 30 September.

The use of Artificial Intelligence in education, culture and the audiovisual sector
The CULT Committee hold a public hearing on "The use of Artificial Intelligence in education, culture and the audiovisual sector" on Wednesday 19 February 2020. Five experts were invited.

The European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) initiative is designed to highlight the richness and diversity of cultures in Europe, celebrate the cultural features Europeans share, increase European citizens' sense of belonging to a common cultural area and foster the contribution of culture to the development of cities.
