Next Committee meeting: 19 and 20 May 2025, Brussels

There will be a Joint EUDS-CULT Public Hearing on The State of the Media in the EU and Media Resilience taking place on Monday 19 May 2025, 15.00-17.30 in meeting room SPINELLI 3G2.
The next CULT Commmitee meeting will take place on Tuesday 20 May 2025, 10.00 - 12.00; 12.00 - 13.15 (Coordinators' meeting) in meeting room SPINELLI 3G2 and on Tuesday 20 May 2025, 14.30 - 18.30 in meeting room ANTALL 6Q2.À ne pas manquer

On 5 May 2025, the Committees on Employment and Social Affairs and on Culture and Education jointly invited the Commission’s Executive Vice-President, Roxana Mînzatu to present the Union of Skills. In early March, the Commission published its strategy to boost high quality education and skills development in order to tackle the labour shortages in Europe and increase the EU’s competitiveness.

On 19 February 2025, the CULT Chair sent a letter to President Von der Leyen to express the committee’s dissatisfaction and request regarding the impact of excluding “Education” in Executive Vice-President Minzatu’s portfolio title. The committee has not received any reply yet.

On April 8th, the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) voted on its Opinion on the ‘’Proposal for a Directive on improving and enforcing working conditions of trainees and combating regular employment relationships disguised as traineeships’’ (‘’Traineeships Directive’’).

On April 8th, the Committee on Culture and Education held two exchanges of views with DG EAC on key youth initiatives, focusing on the EU Youth Strategy and the European Solidarity Corps.

On April 8th, 2025, the Committee on Culture and Education hosted a public hearing on “Enhancing media literacy in the digital age’’, exploring the impact of digital technologies and media literacy.

Ms. Laurence Farreng, will present her draft report on a new vision for the European Universities alliances during the CULT Committee meeting on 8 May. There are currently 65 alliances with the participation of over 570 universities. The report advocates for a long-term, transformative approach to enhance academic excellence and Europe’s strategic position.
