Meeting of the DEVE Committee 17 March and joint DEVE/ENVI meeting
The Committee on Development will met on 17 March to discuss the following files:
- Exchange of views with Tom Fletcher from OCHA on the 2026 Humanitarian Priorities and Challenges;
- Exchange of views with Commissioners Jozef Síkela and Hadja Lahbib on the Commission Work Programme;
- Jointly with ENVI Committee :Presentation of the draft report on the SDGs in view of the 2026 High-Level Political Forum;
- Public Hearing on Water in EU Development Cooperation: Enhancing EU Action, Sustainable Investments and Policy Coherence;
- Presentation of a study by the lead author Lukas Schlögl: The Foundations of EU Development and Cooperation Policies;
- Votes on :
- Opinion on EU strategy to face the new theories against democracy;
- Opinion on the protocol to the EU fisheries partnership agreement with the Cook Islands (2025-2032);
- Budget 2027: Pilot Projects and Preparatory Actions (PP-PAs) for pre-assessment by the Commission.

On Tuesday 17 March, the Members of the Committee on Development will exchange with Commissioners Jozef Síkela and Hadja Labhib in separate "Structured Dialogues" on the Commission Work Programme.
Five days ahead of World Water Day, and in view of the 2026 UN Water Conference, the Public Hearing aims to develop recommendations on how to place water at the centre of the EU's international partnerships with countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Invited experts from the UN, civil society, private sector and academia will present evidence about current challenges to and possible solutions for making progress on the SDG 6 concerning universal access to water and sanitation.
