Farm to fork strategy

The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development will vote on two legislative reports, namely on regional economic accounts for agriculture and on statistics on agricultural input and output, on 11 October. The committee will also host the presentation of a study carried out by the Joint Research Centre on the Farm to Fork Strategy.

The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety will vote on the amendments on the report on a Pharmaceutical Strategy for Europe and a resolution on the upcoming COP26 Climate Conference in Glasgow, on 11-12 October. It will also vote on the ENVI opinions on the implementation report on on-farm animal welfare and on the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.

The Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection will go over its opinion on the proposed regulation on batteries and waste batteries, on 11 October. The tabled amendments focus on important issues such as the need to raise social and environmental standards, introduce safeguards to the benefit of consumers and companies that respect the rules, and clarify that the new sustainability requirements apply to batteries for light means of transport such as e-bikes.

The Committee on Budgets will vote on the report on the 2022 budget. The Committee will also debate the intermediary results of a study on the interaction between the EU budget's own resources and the underlying sectoral policies, such as the 'green' own resources, and resources based on the functioning of the Single market or corporate taxation, on 11 October.

The Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality will debate with the Commission on reaching women's economic independence through entrepreneurship and self-employment, on 11 October. It will also discuss the draft report on Gender Mainstreaming in the European Parliament - annual report 2020 and the draft opinion on the AFET draft report on Human rights and democracy in the world and the European Union's policy on the matter – annual report 2021.

AI and Transport

The Committee on Transport and Tourism and the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age will hold a joint hearing on AI and Transport, on 11 October. Representatives from the academia, private sector and civil society will debate on the long-term impact of artificial intelligence on transport modes and mobility. The discussion will also cover EU transport policies.

The Committee on Fisheries will hold a hearing on the future of the EU’s fisheries industry, on 11 October. This industry employs hundreds of thousands of people, but not enough young ones, making employers look for labour across EU countries or even abroad. Experts will present the various aspects of the safety and employment at sea issues, followed by a debate.

The Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality will vote on the draft opinion to the proposal on the Digital Services Act, on 12 October 2021. Broad support were found to better protect children, strengthen users’ position vis-à-vis the digital platforms, fight violence and harmful content, access to data, adopt codes of conduct, identify all potential risks in digital environment, strengthen platforms' accountability and involve national bodies in the implementation of the directive.
