On Wednesday 27 October 2021 from 13h45-15h45 the FEMM Committee organised a Public Hearing entitled “Enhancing gender equality through common European action on care".

The hearing examined gender aspects of provision of care, especially with regard to uneven distribution of care responsibilities in formal and informal care, but also the overrepresentation of women in the care sector, the challenges related to this at EU level including the consequences on the gender pay and gender pension gaps and on the work-life balance and the possible added value of common European action on care. Different speakers presented their experiences, analysis and suggestions.

The European Commission was represented by Dubravka Šuica, EC Vice-President for Democracy and Demography, Nicolas Schmit, Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Helena Dalli, Commissioner for Equality (video statement)
