Structured dialogue with Commissioner Mairead McGuinness

Following the resignation of Trade Commissioner Phil Hogan, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reshuffled her team. MEPs held two extraordinary hearings for the posts of Trade and Finance. Mairead McGuinness, who served as Parliament's first vice-president was questioned by the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee for the finance portfolio. Parliament will have the final say on her appointment.

Mairead McGuinness, Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union (CMU), appeared before the ECON committee for a dialogue across the full range of her responsibilities, on 24 January, 11:30-12:30.

The last such meeting took place in June 2022, although the Commissioner had also appeared on specific issues since then. Recent Commission proposals in her area of responsibility include measures to regulate the operation of European gas markets, measures on clearing and company listing to promote the CMU, and a proposal on instant payments.
