On 20 April 2022, the IMCO Committee held a public hearing on "Upholding consumer rights when shopping outside the EU".

The aim of this hearing is to provide an overview of the state of play of consumer rights in this context, such as pre-contractual information and protection against unfair practices and contract terms. Experts provided an overview of the legal framework and the challenges consumers and sellers face when buying and selling goods from outside the Union. They also provided an insight into the work of the Commission and national consumer protection authorities, in order to ensure effective consumer protection.
