The Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) will vote on the implementation report on the revised Audiovisual Media Services Directive on 28 March (Rapporteur: Ms Kammerevert, S&D Group). Following the vote in Committee, the report is foreseen to be adopted by the Plenary in April/May 2023.

On 27 March, there will be an exchange of views between the Committee on Culture and Education and Commissioner Ferreira. They will discuss the Commission’s communication on harnessing talent in Europe’s regions and the ‘Talent Booster Mechanism'. As part of the European Year of Skills, the EU wants to support regions affected by an accelerated decline of their working age population to develop training, retaining and attraction measures.

The Committee on Culture and Education will discuss on 27 March two recent publications of the EP Academic Freedom Monitor. The first deals with 'The State of Play of Academic Freedom in the EU' - a pilot country report on major issues in EU Member States. The second, 'How academic freedom is monitored?' is an overview of existing methods to assess academic freedom.

The Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) will have a first exchange of views on the proposal for a Regulation establishing a common framework for media services in the internal market (“European Media Freedom Act”) on 28 March. The Rapporteur, Ms Verheyen (EPP Group), will outline briefly the main objectives of the upcoming EP draft report and inform CULT Members about the work being carried out and the next steps and timeline.

On 1st March 2023, the Policy Department for Structural and Cohesion Policies held a workshop on "The influence of social media on the development of children and young people" at the CULT Committee meeting.
