Members held an exchange of views with the Commissioner for Energy, Ms Kadri Simson, and the International Energy Agency Executive Director, Mr Fatih Birol, on the effects of the war in the energy policy of the EU as well as on the challenges and consequences on the energy markets and energy diplomacy at a global level.

Since Russia’s unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine, the ITRE Committee has had responsibility for defining the future regulatory framework of the European gas market, addressing energy in terms of European security and affordability.
