Welcome to the website of the Special Committee on Beating Cancer of the European Parliament.

The establishment of this committee shows the importance of the fight against cancer for the EU's future. An estimated 2.7 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed and 1.3 million people will have died from cancer in the EU in 2020. Over 100 million Europeans are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in the next 25 years. These figures show the immense scale of the problem that lies ahead.

The engagement of the Members of the European Parliament in the creation of a common framework of cancer treatment is an expression of our solidarity, but also of our responsibility for the wellbeing of our fellow Europeans. We should support researchers, doctors, nurses, social workers and provide real assistance to patients fighting cancer and those who recovered from it.

The coming 12 months will be dedicated to establish a set of concrete recommendations for the member states and the EU institutions in order to strengthen our resilience against cancer. I am confident that we will deliver on this task.
