On Tuesday, 10 May 2022, the FEMM Committee jointly with the LIBE Committee will hold a public hearing on “Combatting gender-based violence online”.
Gender based violence online is the uninhibited and mostly anonymous extension of the rising violence among our societies. Digital crimes, acts of intimidation, bullying, stalking, doxing, harassment and other violence affect mostly women and girls through Internet, social networks and SMS.
The LIBE and FEMM committees have long been committed to tackle these issues in all possible manners. Prior to the examination of the draft Directive on combatting violence against women and domestic violence this new joint hearing has been organised to feed Members reflection and put forward ways and means to further improve the existing legislative framework.
Four guest experts and Commissioner Helena Dalli are invited to discuss these issues with LIBE and FEMM Members.
