Uzklausīšanas

Komiteja var organizēt ekspertu uzklausīšanu, ja uzskata, ka tas ir vajadzīgs sekmīgai attiecīgā jautājuma izskatīšanai. Uzklausīšanu var rīkot kopīgi divas vai vairākas komitejas. Vairums komiteju organizē regulāras uzklausīšanas, jo tās sniedz iespēju uzklausīt ekspertu viedokli un apspriest svarīgākos jautājumus. This public hearing assessed how effectively air passenger rights have been safeguarded during the COVID-19 outbreak and it examined whether the EU’s current legal framework on passenger rights is adequate to deal with such crises. Many passengers had their flights cancelled by their airlines and national emergency measures were taken, such as flight bans, imposing quarantine requirements or requiring a negative COVID-19 test from passengers.

On 16 June 2021, the PETI and AGRI Committees organised a joint hearing on How to treat farmers in a fair and equal manner across the EU. The hearing began presenting two petitions from Lithuania and Poland complaining about the fact that farmers still receive direct payments per hectare below the EU average. It was structured in two panels; the first panel discussed the currently on-going CAP reform; the second panel dealt with how to solve inequality in CAP payments.

On 26 May 2021, the Committee on Petitions organised a hearing on the Interinstitutional relations in the treatment of petitions: the role of the Commission. The hearing began with the presentation of a study on the very same subject, commissioned by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions. Then, the European Ombudsman made a keynote speech about her perspective on the Commission’s response to citizen’s concerns.

On 25 February 2021, the PETI and ENVI Committees held a joint public hearing on plastics and waste management in the circular economy. EU Citizens are very concerned with the impact of plastics on the environment and in particular with the end-of-life stage of plastics.

On 29 October 2020, a hearing on Union Citizenship will be jointly organised by the European Parliament (JURI, LIBE, AFCO and PETI Committees) and the European Commission. The hearing will see a keynote speech by Mr. Didier Reynders, Commissioner for Justice and the participation of the office of the European Ombudsman, as well as representatives from various NGOs.

Revaluation of the wolf population in the EU

For decades, the wolf was regarded as strongly endangered in Europe. Its population is now recovering in many areas of the continent.The joint ENVI-PETI public hearing, with the association of AGRI, focused on the wolf population within the EU.

On 12 November 2019 the Committee on Petitions organised a hearing on "FATCA and its extraterritorial impact on EU Citizens.” The aim of the hearing was to facilitate an exchange of views between the various stakeholders and listen to the issues faced by EU citizens affected by FATCA. The hearing consisted of two panels, focusing on financial services and the exchange of tax information with the US and on potential conflicts between European data protection rules and FATCA.

On 21 March 2019, the PETI and ENVI Committees will hold a joint Public Hearing on “Climate Change Denial.” The aim of the hearing is to explore the topic of climate change denial under different perspectives and to examine the communication techniques used in politics or by private companies and other actors in society to mislead the public on the negative impact of certain industrial activities or policies on the climate.
