On 21 March, Ms Borjana Krišto, the first female head of the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is set to address MEPs of the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

On 23 March the Committee on Foreign Affairs will present a study entitled "Afghanistan: Lessons learnt from 20 years of supporting democracy, development and security". Following the Taliban’s seizure of power in August 2021, the European Union developed a ‘Basic Needs’ approach supporting initiatives to alleviate human suffering and helping NGOs activity on the ground. This study analyses whether the EU’s external action has been considered as adequate.

On 16 March 2023, a delegation of Members from the Committee of Foreign Affairs (AFET) and on Development (DEVE) will visit the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. Members will hold discussions on EIB external action, especially activities of the ‘EIB Global’ branch which was set up in January 2022. This new branch promotes investments outside the EU, supporting EU partnerships around the world, in particular in climate change, innovation and development.

On 28 February, the Committee on Foreign Affairs jointly with the Subcommittee on Security and Defence will mark the first year of the fully-fledged Russian war of aggression against Ukraine with a debate on the lessons learnt and the way forward.

A delegation of AFET Members will travel to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia and the seat of the ASEAN Secretariat, and to Hanoi in Vietnam from 20 to 24 February. The main goal of the mission is to contribute to furthering the EU-ASEAN Strategic Partnership, in particular cooperation between the parliaments, and to enhancing bilateral relations with EU’s major partners in the region.
