The aim of the hearing which will take place on the 13th of July is to look at chips as a strategic component of any industrial chain and the race for the most advanced chips is linked to technological and industrial leadership. The hearing will be held in the context of the recent Commission proposal on a European Chips Act

The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy will consider on 13 July the draft reports from Jerzy Buzek, Rapporteur for the recast Gas/Hydrogen Regulation, and Jens Geier, Rapporteur for the recast Gas/Hydrogen Directive.

On Tuesday 12 July, the ITRE and CULT committees will vote on the joint own-initiative report on the New European Bauhaus (NEB). The draft report, under the co-rapporteurship of Christian Ehler (ITRE) and Marcos Ros Sempere (CULT), has generated a broad interest in the Parliament, including nearly 500 amendments tabled and some 60 compromise amendments. The REGI and EMPL committees have also been involved throughout the process.

The aim of the hearing, which took place on 21 June, was to look at the automotive sector and its supply chains in the context of the EU industrial policy. Experts also discussed innovation, competition, and the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the automotive industry.

On 13 June 2022 at the ITRE Committee meeting, Commissioner Gabriel presented an update on the relevant policy areas including state of play on the implementation of the Horizon Europe programme. Following the Russian invasion to Ukraine, a special attention has been taken to address the subject on the European support to the Ukrainian research community.

On 11 March 2022, through the Versailles Declaration, the Heads of State and Government tasked the Commission to develop a plan to reduce the EU’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels. This plan took shape in the RePowerEU Plan. Commissioner Simson presented the Plan to ITRE Members on 14 June 2022.

Mr Timo Pesonen, Director-General for Defence Industry and Space, presented the joint Commission-EEAS analysis of the defence investment gaps, published on 18 May as a follow up from the Versailles Summit, and elaborated on further proposed measures and actions necessary to strengthen the European defence industrial and technological base.
