EMPL committee meeting 23-24 January 2023

During the Committee meeting EMPL Members held an exchange of views with the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Members welcomed Anna Tenje (Swedish Minister for the elderly and social security) and Paulina Brandberg (Swedish Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Minister for Employment) to discuss its priorities in relation to the committees' respective areas of responsibilities.
The EMPL Committee also welcomed Vice-President Margrethe Vestager, as part of the structured dialogue. Based on the presentation of a recent study and in the presence of Michael O´Flaherty, Director of the European Union Fundamental Rights Agency, Members discussed the impact of recent crises, including the war in Ukraine, on social rights. Members also voted on the Minimum Income Recommendations, and on the budget implementation discharge to the European Commission and Agencies under the EMPL remit.
