On 11 March 2022, through the Versailles Declaration, the Heads of State and Government tasked the Commission to develop a plan to reduce the EU’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels. This plan took shape in the RePowerEU Plan. Commissioner Simson presented the Plan to ITRE Members on 14 June 2022.

On 11 March 2022, through the Versailles Declaration, the Heads of State and Government tasked the Commission to develop a plan to reduce the EU's dependence on Russian fossil fuels. This plan took shape in the RePowerEU Plan published by the Commission on 18 May. Commissioner Simson presented the Plan to ITRE Members, which includes targeted amendments to ongoing Fit for 55 files and to the RRF Regulation as well as several communications including the overarching RePowerEU Plan, one on the external energy engagement strategy of the Union, another on energy saving and one on solar strategy.
