Next meeting of the Committee on Budgets

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the European Parliament has established a number of measures to contain the spread of the virus and to safeguard Parliament's core activities. The current precautionary measures do not affect work on legislative priorities.

Core activities are maintained to ensure the smooth running of the institution's legislative, budgetary, and scrutiny functions.

Following these decisions, the next BUDG Committee meeting will take place on:

Monday 31 January 2022, 13.45-15.45
Tuesday 1 February 2022, 09.00-12.00 (TBC)

The Committee on Budgets will hold a workshop on gender budgeting to take stock of the practical implementation of gender budgeting. The speakers will present concrete experiences made in this field by the Commission and national administrations, and be complemented by the International Women Alliance in this regard.

The Committee on Budgets will hold its mid-term constituent meeting on 26 January from 13.45 to 15.45 where it will elect its chair and vice-chairs for the remaining two-and-half years of the current parliament. Members of the committee were appointed for the second half of the term at the plenary sittings on 19-20 January 2022.

The Committee on Budgets will vote on a proposal to mobilise the EGF for €3.7 million to support 297 dismissed workers from Airbus in the Occitanie and Pays de la Loire regions in France. The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) aims to provide support to people losing their jobs as a result of globalisation and of technological and environmental changes.

The President of the European Investment Bank, Dr Werner Hoyer, will present the new development branch of the bank in a joint session of the AFET, DEVE and BUDG committees on 26 January. The new branch was set up following Council conclusions from June 2021 and went into operation on 1 January 2022.

The Committee on Budgets received Commissioner Hahn to look into the Own Resources package proposed by the Commission on 22 December 2021 during its meeting of 13 January. The package comprises three new categories of own resources for the EU budget based on: (i) revenue from the revised ETS, (ii) the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and (iii) a share of the additional corporate tax income which is expected once the OECD/G20 agreement is operationalised at EU level.
