Next DROI meeting - 26 and 27 January 2022

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the President of the European Parliament has established a number of measures to contain the spread of the virus and to safeguard Parliament's core activities. The current precautionary measures do not affect work on legislative priorities.
Core activities are maintained to ensure the smooth running of the institution's legislative, budgetary, and scrutiny functions.
The next meeting of the Subcommittee on Human Rights will take place on Wednesday 26 January from 13.45 - 16.15 and 16.45 - 18.45, and on Thursday 27 January from 09.00 - 12.00.

The DROI Subcommittee Constitutive meeting will take place on Wednesday 26 January , 13.45 - 14.45 in room József Antall 4Q1.

On 27 January 2022, 10.00 – 11.00 the Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold and exchange of views on Libya, to discuss the human rights situation in general as well as the fundamental rights of asylum seekers and migrants. Speakers from the United Nations will present the reports: "Unsafe and Undignified: The forced expulsion of migrants from Libya" and the report of the Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Libya (FFM), established by the UN Human Rights Council.

Street demonstrations, investigations, poisoning and jail… Alexei Navalny’s fight against the corruption of the Russian regime has been met with intimidation and violence for more than a decade. The European Parliament awarded the 2021 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the jailed Russian opposition figure in the centenary year of Russian dissident Andrei Sakharov, after whom the prize is named.

On 13 December (19.45-21.15), the Committees on Foreign Affairs and Development and the Subcommittee on Human Rights will hold a joint exchange of views with the representatives of the 2021 Sakharov Prize laureate Alexei Navalny - his daughter Daria Navalnaya and his adviser Leonid Volkov. The Sakharov Prize award ceremony will take place in the Plenary on Wednesday, 15 December.
