ICM on the Fundamental rights aspects of Roma inclusion and fighting anti-Gypsyism

The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs will vote on a resolution on the situation in the Schengen area following the Covid-19 outbreak, on 4 June. The Committee will also discuss the report on the implementation of National Roma integration strategies with Equality Commissioner Helena Dalli and Michael O'Flaherty, Executive Director of the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights. The report looks into ways of combating negative attitudes towards people with Romani background.

In the LIBE meeting of 25 May Members voted on the draft opinion on the Recommendations on the negotiations for a new partnership with the UK as well as on the draft recommendation for second reading on the Community statistics on migration and international protection. Also, the draft interim report on the Determination of a clear risk of a serious breach by the Republic of Poland of the rule of law was presented by the Rapporteur, Juan Fernando López Aguilar.

In the LIBE Committee meeting on 7 May, which took place via visioconference, Members held an exchange of views with Commissioner Johansson on Home Affairs issues in Covid-19 times. They had as well exchange views with the EDPS and the EDPB on the use of personal data in the fight against Covid-19.

In the LIBE Committee meeting of 12 May Members had a full session dedicated to the internal border controls within the Schengen area, starting with a report by Tanja Fajon on the work of the LIBE Working Group on Schengen Scrutiny, followed by an exchange of views with Terezija Gras, State Secretary for European and International Affairs, Ministry of the Interior, Croatian Presidency and Monique Pariat, Director-General, DG HOME, European Commission.

Nina Gregori, Executive Director of EASO will present, in the LIBE meeting of 18 May, the agency's operational support to Member States in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, notably in Greece. Afterwards, Ms Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol, will present Europol's work in combatting Covid-19 pandemic-induced criminal behaviour.
